built 203 days ago
The original Game Boy was released on April 21, 1989 in Japan and in August 1989 in the United States with an MSRP of US$100. Based around a Z80 processor, it has a black and green reflective LCD screen, an eight-way directional pad, two action buttons, and Start and Select buttons. It plays games from ROM-based media contained in small plastic detachable units called cartridges (sometimes abbreviated as carts or GamePaks).

The original Game Boy The Game Boy had a green screen that could show four shades of grey or dark green. Like the NES, it had four buttons and a cross-shaped directional control. The console had a single speaker, but could be used with stereo headphones. As many as four Game Boys could be connected together with special wires for games with more than one player.
Gameboy Like the NES controller, the Game Boy has four face buttons labelled "A", "B", "SELECT", and "START". The functions of these face buttons vary from game to game, though generally, the START button is used as a "pause" function to temporarily stop gameplay. The Game Boy ... features a directional pad, allowing up to eight directions of movement in its games.
Game Boy games currently sell for $20 to $30. Popular titles, beyond the ubiquitous Pokémon, range the gamut from traditional hand-held activities to titles from video game platforms, from action and sports to fantasy / adventure, and include BomberMan, Mario Golf, Duke Nuken, Final Fantasy, and Bass Fishing.
The original Game Boy was first released in Japan on April 21, 1989. It plays games from ROM-based media contained in small plastic detachable units called cartridges (sometimes abbreviated as carts or GamePaks). The killer game that pushed the Game Boy into the upper reaches of success was Tetris. Tetris was widely popular, and on the handheld format could be played anywhere. It came packaged with the Game Boy, and broadened its reach; adults and kids alike were buying Game Boys in order to play Tetris.
The poor sales performance can be attributed to the poor selection of games compared to its competitors and its cost at launch; it was more than twice as expensive as a Game Boy Advance SP on release day. Poor sales were ... amplified by game media being standard MMC memory cards and as with most consoles piracy did become an issue.
