Gallbladder: Diseases
built 638 days ago
The walls that line the gallbladder get thicker and more filled with fluid (edema), causing tenderness over the area. The severe inflammation that ensues may be associated with other symptoms, such as fever and malaise. Repeated bouts of acute cholecystitis that are unrecognized or untreated can lead to chronic cholecystitis or chronic gallbladder disease.
Unfortunately, only about 10-20% of patients present with tumor confined to the gallbladder wall. At diagnosis, 40-60% of patients have lesions that perforate the gallbladder wall and invade adjacent organs (T3) and 45% of patients have regional lymph node involvement (N1). Approximately 30% of patients present with metastatic disease.

Fair was for the Scandinavians, as gallbladder disease seemed to be more common in this group, although it is unclear if that was based on genetics, diet, lifestyle or a combination. And being fair obviously covers many other nationalities, so it wasn’t the greatest marker.
