Galileo: Writings

Galileo is an excellent platform for VPN and VOIP applications. It uses unique stabilization technology to reduces link noise from rain and other atmospheric anomalies. Signal processing technology dramatically reduces bit errors by identifying and correcting errors as they occur. Standard TCP/IP congestion controls are eliminated and replaced with proprietary controls designed for satellite communication. Satellite latency is ... reduced with low network overhead using protocol proxy software that maintains compete full TCP/IP standards for plug and play compatibility. Combine all of these technologies, and Galileo is the obvious choice for professional grade satellite connectivity.

Galileo ... conducted experiments with falling objects. Aristotle believed heavier objects fall to the ground faster than lighter objects. As legend has it, Galileo dropped two objects from the Leaning Tower of Pisa to prove or disprove Aristotle's theory. These objects were the same size, but different weights. They fell to the ground at the same speed. This disproved Aristotle's theory and led Galileo to discover the Law of Falling Bodies.

At a debate during a state dinner for two visiting cardinals, Galileo repeats the Archimedean arguments abouts bodies in water. He is supported by Cardinal Maffeo Barberini (later Pope Urban VIII), who became one of Galileo's patrons at this time.

While teaching at Pisa, Galileo conducted a legendary experiment in which he challenged Aristotle's law which states that heavier objects fall at a faster rate than lighter objects. According to legend, Galileo went to the top of The Tower of Pisa and dropped various balls of different material, size, and weight from the top. When they all hit the ground at the same time, Galileo had proven Aristotle wrong. Galileo failed to publish his results, and because he was disliked by his colleagues, the University of Pisa failed to renew his contract as professor.

Incidentally, Galileo was thinking about quite a different series of physics problems at this same time-trying to understand when things will float and when they sink. He believed Archimedes’ Principle, that denser objects than water sink in water. (To be precise, the Principle states that the buoyant supporting force from the water on an immersed object is equal to the weight of the water displaced by the object. That is, it is equal to the weight of a volume of water equal to the volume of the object. So if the object is denser than water, its weight is greater than the buoyancy force and it sinks.)
