Galactic Civilizations II: Twilight of the Arnor Galactic Civilizations II: Twilight of the Arnor is the final act in the epic Dread Lords saga. The game includes a massive payload of new content and features requested by the series' devout fanbase. In addition to a new campaign that ties up the Dread Lords saga, Twilight of the Arnor adds civilization-specific technology trees and planetary improvements that add even more flavor to each alien race, while greatly expanding the strategic depth of the game. A vast array of new ships, weapons, starbases and ship components will be available to players, including the devastating Terror Star, which can annihilate entire star systems. Galactic Civilizations II: Twilight of the Arnor requires GC2: Gold Edition or GC2: Dark Avatar.

Galactic Civilizationsscreenshot One of Galactic Civilizations' more unusual factors is its alignment system. Essentially, good-aligned empires are much friendlier toward others aligned in that direction and tend to be more hostile to evil-aligned empires. AI alignments are set at the beginning of the game, but yours starts out as neutral and is determined by your response to random story events. It can sometimes seem that you'll benefit more often from choosing an evil alternative instead of a good one, but moving in a good or an evil direction can have an impact on how your empire is viewed by the entire galaxy, so choosing short-term rewards isn't always the best strategy.
The Galactic Civilizations 2 forums have the change notes for a Dark Avatar 1.5X patch that's now available. Changes will include decreased memory usage, AI tweaks and updates and new game setup options....

Galactic Civilizations offers a number of rather interesting and commendable options right at the beginning. Similar to Star Wars: Rebellion, you can optimize the size of the galaxy you will be exploring in and you can increase or lessen the number of inhabitable planets. But, before you start expanding your civilization, you can take the time to optimize some of the alien races. Whether these aliens are smart, dumb, evil, good, or just plain neutral, it is all up to you. Once you've finished setting the morals and intelligence of each opposing race, you are ready to adjust miscellaneous skills and political preferences of your own civilization. The way you run your government has a great influence on your general success in the game.

The universe of Galactic Civilizations II is complex. There are many different methods that a player can use to win the game. Politics and diplomacy, research and warfare are all equally important and equally viable tools in your arsenal. The interface is easy to use and the graphics are well done. The two minor disappointments of this title are the sounds and the slow beginnings to each game. It takes time to really set things in motion, which may bother casual gamers.
