Gabon is an active participant in actions to rehabilitate Pigmy culture. In 2004, NGOs and Gabonese associations undertook a project in “Audiovisual Training for the Forest People of Gabon”. The project fell within the framework of the intersectorial “ITCs for Intercultural Dialogue” programme, a UNESCO project for indigenous people. The goal was to raise awareness among the Gabonese populations of the value of Pigmy culture.

Gabon has obtained a loan of US$366.1 million from the African Development Bank [ADB] to finance a road building programme, one of the biggest projects the bank has supported in recent years. The project aims to improve road links to neighbouring countries and raise the proportion of asphalted roads in Gabon to 30% by 2012 from 11% last year. The loan will cover 90% of the programme, with Gabon's government paying the rest. [Reuters 25/10/07]
