According to Ron Krupitzer, vice president of AISI's AAC, "Future Steel Vehicle comes at a critical time in the United States because our government is working on legislation for reduced auto tailpipe emissions. One of the challenges concerning automotive emissions regulation is to achieve the intended control without creating unintended consequences.

On May 3, the House Small Business Subcommittee on Rural Enterprises, Agriculture and Technology held a hearing on "The Future of Rural Telecommunications: Is Universal Service Reform Needed?" Computer & Communications Industry Association (CCIA) President Ed Black told the Subcommittee that The Universal Service Reform Act of 2006 is a comprehensive bill and should serve as the framework for more extensive reform. The provisions in the legislation offered by Reps. Terry and Boucher are a much needed first step.
