Futurama is set at the beginning of the 31st century, in a time filled with technological wonders. Various devices and architecture are similar to the Populuxe design. Global warming, inflexible bureaucracy, and substance abuse are a few of the subjects given a 31st century exaggeration in a world where the problems have become both more extreme and more common. In a jab at segregation, for example, the show depicts the human prejudice against mutants as being so great that the latter have been forced to live underground in the sewers. The characters' home on Earth is the city of New New York, built over the ruins of present-day New York City, referred to as "Old New York".

This 10-piece "Futurama" sign set has nine signs and one logo magnet. These die-cut magnets, each about 2-3/4 by 2 inches, come on one magnetic sheet, ready to peal and stick to your fridge, locker or cubicle. The set is now $11.99 at FridgeDoor.com, which ... has an 11-piece magnet set.

Matt Groening's second series of the 31st century sci-fi sitcom Futurama maintained the high scripting standards of the first as well bringing improved digital animation. Couch potato Fry now seems thoroughly reconciled to his new existence, transported 10 centuries hence to "New New York" and working for Professor Farnsworth's delivery service. He's surrounded by a cast of freaks, including the bitchily cute Amy (with whom he has a romantic brush) and Hermes, the West Indian bureaucrat. Most sympathetic is the one-eyed Leela (voiced by Katey Sagal). Like Lisa Simpson, she is brilliant but unappreciated; she finds solace in her pet Nibbler, a tiny creature with a voracious, carnivorous appetite. By contrast, Bender, the robot, is programmed with every human vice, a sort of metal Homer Simpson with a malevolent streak.

Futurama premiered in 1999 to hype and anticipation that seemed fitting for the first new series created by Matt Groening since The Simpsons. But even before the show reached the air, Groening was describing his Futurama-related dealings with the Fox network as the worst experience of his adult life. What happened next couldn't have made him feel much better. While Futurama struggled to connect to its audience, Fox first moved it to a new time slot, then constantly preempted it for sports broadcasts [...] In other words, Futurama contains something for everyoneexcept, it seems, grumpy Fox executives. The Futurama story is even more shrouded in the mists of time than that of Selmer amplification. As soon as the Brits got hold of their Stratocasters, the Futurama was instantly forgotten; destined to languish in junk shops, car-boot sales, and to act as knock-abouts for beginners to the guitar game for the next three or four decades. However, with the growing enthusiasm for all-things Beatle, particularly in the US, a little more interest is now being taken in these old workhorses. Having said that, there is still a long way to go before the Futurama is as sought after as a 1963 500/1 Violin Bass! Maybe this webpage will help just a little!
