1. The Fugees
   The Fugees were a critically-acclaimed New Jersey hip hop group that rose to fame in the mid-1990s, whose repertoire included elements of soul, and Caribbean music, particularly reggae. The members of the group are rapper/singer/producer Wyclef Jean, rapper/singer Lauryn Hill, and rapper Pras Michel. Deriving their name from the term "refugee", Jean and Michel are Haitian Americans, while Hill is African American. The group recorded two albums — one of which, The Score (1996), was a multi-platinum and Grammy-winning success — before disbanding in 1997. Hill and Jean each went on to successful solo recording careers, while Michel focused mainly on soundtrack recordings and acting,though he did find some commercial success with his song Ghetto Superstar.

   The Fugees would make their first televised appearance in almost ten years at BET's 2005 Music Awards on 28 June, opening the show with a twelve minute set. With a new album announce to be in the works, one track, "Take It Easy", was leaked online and eventually released as an Internet single on September 27, 2005. It peaked at #40 on the Billboard R&B Chart and was met with poor reviews, noting its radical departure from the Fugees' sound.

Their story is about children with miserable pasts trying to make good with strangers in a very different and sometimes hostile place. But as a season with the youngest of the three teams revealed, it is ... a story about the challenges facing resettled refugees in this country. More than 900,000 have been admitted to the United States since 1993, and their presence seems to bring out the best in some people and the worst in others.
5. The Fugees -- V Cast
   The Fugees' debut LP, Blunted On Reality, was released (two years after it was finished due to internal label problems). The LP left little impact and is not considered to be a great effort by the trio. Even the band admits the LP was a product of their youth, exuberance for having a record deal, and over-zealous producers. Remixes of a few tracks from the LP ("Nappy Heads" and "Vocab") showed the Fugees' potential for impressive music and vocals and allowed the band to begin gaining a fan base. Also, Clef said the LP was a stepping-stone for hip hop music: "...this is what hip hop needed for the music to go to the next level where you could pick up a guitar, or sing, and not feel like you've gotta front."

7. The Fugees -- Luma Mufleh
   The Fugees have had to raise their own cash to make it to tournaments. A tall order for a team whose parents work in minimum wage jobs. Even more dire, they will not have the city park to play come March when the city decree runs out. Luma Mufleh is now looking for a permanent home for the Fugees.

Deriving their name from the term "refugee", the group is noted for the integration of soul and reggae into their work, and recorded two albums—one of which, The Score, was a multi-platinum and Grammy-winning success—before going their separate ways after 1997. Hill and Jean each went on to successful solo recording careers, while Michel focused mainly on soundtrack recordings and acting.
9. The Fugees -- Rapper Pras
   In September 2004, it was announced that The Fugees had settled their differences and were currently working on a new album. They appeared onstage together at an exclusive block party in New York City that month, hosted by Dave Chappelle. On June 28, 2005, they opened the BET awards with a surprise performance featuring several of their hit songs. One track, "Take It Easy," off their upcoming album was leaked online and eventually released as a single on the internet in September 2005. In February, 2006, a track was leaked titled "Foxy." Also, recently, one more track was leaked titled "Wannabe." But, according to Pras, the group has disbanded again, and the chances for another reunion seem very slim.
10. Lauryn Hill -- Wyclef Jean
    In 1998, when Lauryn Hill was recording her debut solo album, she was on a mission. "She was aiming for big hits so she could outshine the Fugees and outshine Wyclef," says someone familiar with the sessions. Her 1996 album with the Fugees, The Score, had sold more than 17 million copies and made her rich and famous, but something was missing. After The Score, many perceived Wyclef Jean as the group's musical genius. Hill began plotting an album of her own that would change that. "Her solo career wasn't based on 'I wanna do an album,'" says Roots drummer Ahmir Thompson.
