Frigidaire is a dominant U.S. appliance company owned by Electrolux. Frigidaire was originally founded as the Guardian Frigerator Company in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, and developed the first self-contained refrigerator. This first of its kind refrigerator was invented by Nathaniel B. Wales and Alfred Mellowes in 1916. Two years later, in 1918, William C. Durant, founder of General Motors, personally invested in the company. In 1919, the Guardian Frigerator Company adopted the name Frigidaire. General Motors owned Frigidaire from 1919 to 1979.

Frigidaire's history reaches back to the earliest days of the household refrigerator. The company was founded in 1916, when engineer Alfred Mellowes and a group of investors formed the Guardian Refrigerator Company in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Just a year earlier, Mellowes had constructed the first true refrigerator, as opposed to an ice box with a refrigeration unit, by attaching an electric refrigeration system to a wooden cabinet. Mellowes set up a small factory and started hand-assembling the appliances, but it was very slow going with workers taking over a week to make each refrigerator. Within less than two years, the company had lost over $30,000 and was headed for bankruptcy.

If you have a Frigidaire made refrigerator (includes Westinghouse, Kelvinator, Tappan, Gibson, Electrolux, and Sears models that begin with "253") then one of these filters should be correct for you. The WFCB and WF1CB are both located in the back right section of the fresh food compartment. The WF2CB is easier to find (it comes out right at you). Once you have your old filter out, you can visually match them with the correct replacement. The WFCB and WF1CB look identical except for the color of the plastic on the filter (WF1CB is blue).
