In Islam, Friday is the day of public worship in mosques (see Friday prayers). In some Islamic countries, the week begins on Sunday and ends on Saturday, just like the Jewish and Christian week. In most other Islamic countries, such as Saudi Arabia and Iraq, the week begins on Saturday and ends on Friday. Friday is ... the day of rest in the Bahá'í Faith.[2]

To make it easier to participate, Friday Night Magic events may only be Standard Constructed, Sealed Deck or Booster Draft. Stores may ... choose to run one Two-Headed Giant tournament (Standard or Sealed) each month. (Contact the store near you to see what formats are offered.) Keeping these formats makes it easier for new players to participate, and you only have to remember three things: Pack your Standard deck; remember where the tournament is happening, and what time it starts.

Friday's ... announced the addition of a new appetizer, soup, sandwich and dessert. Ancho Chile Wings (buffalo wings tossed in Ancho honey-glaze and served with a side of Green Chile sour cream sauce) are the newest addition to Friday's appetizer menu. And in case guests are in the mood to warm up, Friday's added White Chicken Chili (white chili made with all white meat chicken, white beans and spices, topped with melted Monterey Jack cheese). The new menu additions also include the California Club Sandwich (mesquite smoked turkey breast, crispy bacon, ham and Monterey Jack cheese stacked on toasted Ciabatta bread with tomatoes, shredded Romaine lettuce, avocado and mayonnaise and served with fries) and Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie (peanut butter graham cracker crust filled with layers of chocolate ganache and fluffy peanut butter mousse topped with whipped cream and Reese's Peanut Butter Cups(TM)).

"Friday" centers on Craig and Smokey's misadventures on a single day when they have too much time on their hands and too much mischief in their hearts. In some ways, Ice Cube's Craig is the flip side of Doughboy, the character he played in John Singleton's searing "Boyz N the Hood." Both are trying to sidestep the pitfalls of growing up hard, but Craig's psychic load is much lighter—he's a homeboy in a fairly stable family, surrounded by potential negatives but not overwhelmed by them. In fact, Craig is something of a straight-arrow, and much of the film's action is the result of Smokey's talking him into sharing a joint. These are prankstas, not gangstas.

The word for Friday in most Romance languages is derived from Latin dies Veneris, "day (of the planet) Venus." (a translation of Greek Aphrodites hemera) such as vendredi in French, venerdì in Italian, viernes in Spanish, and vineri in Romanian. In most of the Indian languages, Friday is Shukravar (or a derived variation of Sukravar), named for Shukra, the Sanskrit name of the planet Venus. Russian uses an ordinal number for this day of the week-- piatnítsa, meaning "fifth." Similarly, the Portuguese is sexta-feira, the sixth day.

In Christianity, Friday has long been regarded as an unlucky day. This superstition may be due to the occurrence of the crucifixion of Christ on that day, and may have been strengthened by the fact that Friday was for many years the day of execution of criminals, commonly called “hangman’s day.”
