The Government factory in Pessac, near Bordeaux, that is striking the French Euro coins has been ordered to slow down its minting of the eight different value pieces. They will need to bring down production to a minimum of 1.7 million pieces per day from the ten million coins per day that it had been striking until now.

[French euro coin] French euro coins of 10, 20 and 50 cents bear a hatched, striped background on the country-specific side. The left stripe is horizontally hatched, the central stripe bears no hatching, the right stripe is vertically hatched, clearly (not to the uninitiated!) showing the French flag (or at least its colours, blue-white-red) by means of a Petra Sancta hatching.

Finnish euro coins have three designs, though two of them are each found on one coin only. The design for the minor and middle series of coins is by Heikki Häiväoja, the design for the 1 euro coin was done by Pertti Mäkinen and the national side of the 2 euro coin is by the hand of Raimo Heino. All designs feature the 12 stars of the EU and the year of imprint. € 0.01 and € 0.02 coins are not used in Finland; only few were minted, for collectors. Sums are rounded to the nearest € 0.05; hence sums ending in € 0.01, € 0.02, € 0.06 or € 0.07 are rounded down, and those ending in € 0.03, € 0.04, € 0.08 or € 0.09 are rounded up. The rounding is applied to the grand total only, while individual prices are still shown and summed up with € 0.01 precision.

From January 1, 1999, the value exchange rate of the French franc against the euro was set at a fixed parity of 1 EUR=6.55957 FRF. Euro coins and notes replaced the franc entirely between January 1 and February 17, 2002.
The euro coins were ... produced according to advanced technical specifications that make reproduction extremely difficult and easy to detect. Particular care has been taken to include unique security features on the €1 and €2 coins. These denominations are produced using sophisticated bi-metallic technology, which makes them difficult to counterfeit. The edge of the €2 coin also includes lettering. The euro coins incorporate the safest machine-readable characteristics and can be used in vending machines throughout the euro area, irrespective of the Member State which issued them.

[Austrian euro coin] Austrian euro coins (all denominations) show a tiny Austrian flag on the country-specific side. On smaller denominations (1, 2 and 5 cents) the flag is curved upwards so as to fit in the scarce space. Once more, colours are represented by hatching (three horizontal stripes hatched vertical-plain-vertical standing for red-white-red).
