The city of Quincy is helping its residents close the digital gap - providing free Internet services to loyal utility customers. City officials say this is just one way they want to give back to the community. Residents in Quincy will now be able to "access" free Internet service, which is twice the speed of dial up. City employees have been installing broadband Internet services in homes around town and have a surplus of Internet terminators. Now good-paying utility customers can cash in on the free devices.

Consumers who were located in areas where there was no local telephone number to access Gateway.net were charged $3.95 per hour to use Gateway's "toll-free" number to connect to the service.
