Frederic Chopin

One of the most profoundly original composers in history, Frederic Chopin was not at all a traditional "Romantic" musician; in fact, most of his music defines a separate category all its own. Born in Zelazowa Wola, a small city near Warsaw, Poland on February 22, 1810, Chopin first studied the piano at the Warsaw School of Music, and was quite proficient on that instrument by his early teens. He played his first public concert at age 7, and was a published composer at 15. By the late 1820s, Chopin had won a great reputation as a piano virtuoso and composer of piano pieces. He toured Europe, giving concert performances for ecstatic audiences and critics. In 1831 he arrived in Paris for such a concert; so immediate was his love for this city that he promptly decided to make it his new home.

Frederic Chopin was one of the greatest piano composers in history. Fortunately for guitarists many of his pieces have been transcribed. Chopin did not confine himself to one key. Notice the amount of accidentals in this 80-second prelude. This piece was originally written in C minor (3 flats). It is transposed here to A minor. The low E string has been dropped to D. Only necessary liberties were taken to accomodate the range and tuning of the guitar.
In 1837, Frederic Chopin met and fell madly in love with George Sand, a female novelist who dressed like a man in order to get her works published. They spent the next ten years together, though they were never married. Chopin considered Sand a great inspiration and it is said that his Waltz in D-flat was written for George Sand's dog. Waltz in D-flat is ... called the Minute Waltz because it can be played in one minute.

Frederic Chopin offers a more intimate traveling experience, yet still includes all the luxurious amenities available on the other Peter Deilmann river cruise ships. Staterooms on the upper deck have full-length French doors, while rooms on the lower deck have big windows that provide scenic views. Rooms feature European-style bedding, with feather pillows and eiderdown, and include desk, built-in closets, shower and toilet, TV, telephone and four-channel radio. The dining room serves six meals daily, and a bar and lounge are provided for recreation and relaxation.
Frederic Chopin was born in Poland of a Polish mother, and his country of origin clearly influenced Chopin to the extent that he wrote many Mazurkas and Polonaises based on Polish dances. The other country he is associated with is France, his father being French and Chopin moving to Paris and spending much of his creative life there. Although often contrasted with the extrovert virtuoso Liszt, the reserved Chopin ... had a creatively important social life in Paris with a number of lady friends. His longest lasting relationship was with the female novelist known as George Sand who dressed as a man. This relationship was important to Chopin, with Sand perhaps acting as a mother figure, and they were together for about 10 years. Chopin was not particularly healthy and developed tuberculosis, which he endured for several years before his death at the age of 39.

Take a look at this Frederic Chopin biography for more about this great classical music composer. Frederic Chopin was born in 1810 near Warsaw, Poland. He began taking piano lessons when he was six years old and by the time he was seven, he was already writing his own music and performing in the homes of nobles. He had his first composition published when he was just 15. Although he always considered Poland his home, he relocated to Paris in 1831 to pursue his love of making music. The people of Paris loved his work. Chopin began teaching music and playing in private homes - something he preferred instead of concerts.
