Frederic Chopin: Poland
built 635 days ago
Born in a village near Warsaw, Poland, Chopin is known as "the poet of the piano." Composing exclusively for piano, he earned his nickname by expanding the instrument's "musical" and "poetic" capabilities. No one has achieved the piano's capacity to create a poem with sounds. He conquered the piano's harmony like no other, sending the piano and the player to a serene majestic world of music.
During the season of 1833 and 1834, Chopin continued to make his way as composer, pianist and teacher. A letter to friends in Poland, says: "Frederic looks well and strong; he turns the heads of all the French women, and makes the men jealous. He is now the fashion."

Recognized as a child prodigy, Chopin was performing in front of crowds and composing his own pieces by the time he was 8 years old. As a young musical scholar, he studied musical composition, art, and literature while growing up in Poland, and continued his musical education at the University of Warsaw.
In commemoration of the genius of Frédéric Chopin, the International Frederick Chopin Piano Competition is held in Warsaw, Poland every five years. Also, the "Grand prix du disque de F.Chopin" is ... held periodically to award notable Chopin recordings, both remastered and newly recorded work.

Chopin was never to return to Poland again and made very few trips outside France, mainly because of his weak health. Among the most famous is the disastrous trip to Mallorca which almost got him killed and the trip to Scotland which was equally bad for his health.
On November 2, 1830, Chopin left Warsaw to give concerts in Western Europe, never to return to Poland. At month's end the November 1830 Uprising broke out, and his traveling companion Titus Woyciechowski returned home to take part. Chopin stayed in Vienna, tormented by anxiety for his loved ones, then visited Munich and Stuttgart (where he learned of Poland's occupation by the Russian army) and by September 1831 arrived in Paris. He had already composed a body of important compositions, including his two piano concertos and some of his Études Op. 10.
