Frederic Chopin: Love
built 623 days ago
In September 1836 Chopin traveled to Dresden where he fell in love with the 17-year-old Maria Wodzinska. Her parents only accepted his proposal under the condition that he would change his lifestyle and look after his weak health in the course of the next year, but only a few months later the Wodzinski family broke the engagement.

Chopin is often compared with people and especially with Liszt but it is a most irrelevant comparison. The very different characters played on different arenas and while the truly romantic Liszt toured as a virtuoso, spellbinding his audience with his extra ordinary capabilities and gave himself totally into the new world of free love, Chopin was composing, mostly Saloon music, gave piano lessons and was the noble gentleman of the old school.

Later that same year Chopin met the novelist George Sand when she asked Liszt to bring Chopin to see her. They did not hit it off immediately but by 1938 they were madly in love.
