Frederic Chopin: Concerts
built 635 days ago
During his years in Paris, Chopin participated in a number of concerts. The programs provide some idea of the richness of Parisian artistic life during this period, such as the concert on March 23, 1833, in which Chopin, Liszt, and Hiller played the solo parts in a performance of Johann Sebastian Bach's concerto for three harpsichords, and the concert on March 3, 1838, when Chopin, Alkan, Alkan's teacher (Pierre Joseph Zimmerman), and Chopin's pupil Adolphe Gutman played Alkan's 8-hand arrangement of Beethoven's 7th symphony. He was ... involved in the composition of Hexaméron (1837) — the sixth (and last) variation on Bellini's theme is Chopin's.
Nearly all of the pieces of music written by Chopin are for the piano as the main instrument. He wrote piano sonatas (of which the Funeral March sonata is very famous), two piano concertos, studies, ballades, nocturnes, mazurkas, polonaises, waltzes, and a set of preludes. His music was praised in his lifetime. Robert Schumann once wrote about Chopin, "Hats off, gentlemen! A genius." Nowadays every skillful pianist has probably played some Chopin, and audiences really enjoy listening to it.
Chopin gave his fist concert in Paris in February 1832, and from then on he was one of the most well known musical figures in France. He ... became one of the most popular and highly paid of piano teachers.

Friedericke Müller (1816-1895) was a highly-regarded professional pianist and one of Chopin's favorite pupils during the year and a half she studied with him (1839-1841). After Chopin dedicated the Allegro de concert, op. 46, to her, Franz Liszt gave her the nickname "Mademoiselle opus quarante- six."
