Frederic Chopin: Composers
built 636 days ago
In Paris, Chopin did not immediately achieve success. It took a couple of hard years of composing and performing before he had worked himself into the highest society where he gave lessons for royalties and could receive the highest gage for his compositions. Chopin became extremely famous and as one example, on the question of who was the best pianist of Kalkbrenner or Liszt, the joking answer, but with an underlying seriousness, was Chopin. So highly was he thought of not only as a composer or teacher but ... as a pianist.
Chopin's birthplace at Żelazowa Wola, now venue to piano recitals. According to the composer's family, Fryderyk (Frederick) Chopin, the couple's third child, was born on March 1, 1810. There is no known birth certificate. His baptismal certificate gives the birthdate as February 22, 1810.
Like other young composers, Chopin dedicated his early Parisian publications to well- known composer-pianists or well-to-do patrons of the arts, who were in a position to provide recommendations, commissions, or employment opportunities. More generally, by associating himself with famous musicians and wealthy lovers of music, Chopin enhanced public estimation of his own music. Publishers recognized the value of these associations for their sales and prominently displayed the names of dedicatees on title pages.
After a trip through Breslau, Dresden, and Prague, Chopin arrived in Vienna, but owing to the unsettled political conditions he never reached Italy. He composed the B Minor Scherzo and the G Minor Ballade, as well as some songs, while he waited in Vienna. These works show Chopin's fully developed personal style long before he had met Franz Liszt, Vincenzo Bellini, or Hector Berlioz, all of whom were said to have influenced his writing. Besides Hummel, the only musician whose piano style inspired Chopin was the Irish composer John Field, who first used the term nocturne on several of his short, lyrical pieces.

At the young age of 7, much like that of Mozart, Chopin had already amazed people with his musical abilities. Chopin departed for Vienna at age 20 to continue his studies, compose and share his talents with composers of his time. By age 21, Chopin reached Paris and became friends with Berlioz, Liszt and Mendelssohn.
