Franz Joseph Haydn was one of the most influential and remarkable musicians of the Classical era. Haydn’s life is the story of how the son of a wheelwright from a little Austrian town rose to become one of the most prolific composers the world has ever seen. Haydn not only wrote a lot of music, including 104 symphonies and 68 string quartets, but he wrote them well. Franz Joseph Haydn was an Austrian composer and a great master of classical music. His symphonies, sonatas and string quartets established those basic genres and influenced Mozart, his close friend, as well as Beethoven, who studied under Haydn. The composer wrote more than one hundred symphonies, eighty string quartets, fifty piano sonatas, and two great oratorios as well as other forms. This painting depicts the young Haydn.

Franz Joseph Haydn , 1732-1809, Austrian composer, one of the greatest masters of classical music. As a boy he sang in the choir at St. Stephen's, Vienna, where he received his principal musical training. He struggled in poverty for years, earning a meager living as a teacher and accompanist. Eventually, his compositions came to the attention of some of Vienna's music-loving aristocrats, and under their patronage his career progressed rapidly. Most of his prodigious musical output was produced during the 29 years of his service as musical director to the princes Esterházy, beginning in 1761. During the 1780s, when he received commissions from London and Paris and honors from all over Europe, he formed a close friendship with Mozart, an association that influenced the music of each.

Born in Austria, Franz Joseph Haydn attended choir school in Vienna. Haydn was mostly self-taught as he worked as a freelance artist. He composed string trios, sonatas, operatic and ecclesiastical music, organ concertos and divertimenti for various arrangements. Around 1758, Haydn became musical director in the service of Count Ferdinand Maximilian Franz Morzin. During this time, Haydn wrote his first symphony. In 1761 Haydn became the deputy conductor for the Prince of Vienna's orchestra.

Franz Joseph Haydn (1732-1809) was born in a small village near Vienna, the second of 12 children. His father loved music, putting on family concerts in which all the children participated. Early on he showed talent as a singer, and his parents sent him away at age six to receive a musical education. When he was eight he became a choirboy at St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna. After a successful career there, his voice changed, and he eked out a living as a musician, playing and teaching. He slowly gained fame, finally finding success by the late 1750s.

Franz Joseph Haydn was born in Austria in 1732. At the age of 29 he entered the service of the famous Hungarian noble family of Esterhazy. Under his direction, their orchestra became one of the finest private orchestras of the time. After the death of Prince Esterhazy in 1790, Haydn was dismissed from the Esterhazy estate and traveled to London. Some of his best works were composed during this period. In 1795 he returned to Austria and was honored throughout the country.
