Frank Sinatra: Committee
built 187 days ago
Frank was first linked to the Mafia in February 1947 in a gossip column report that stated he was seen in Havana with mobster Lucky Luciano. Later, in 1949, he was tied to both the Mafia "and" the Communists. The Committee on Un-American Activities said he followed or appeased some of the Communist Party line program. Sinatra has flat out denied any involvement with the Communist Party. Apparently, these accusations continued. On April 8, 1947, Sinatra punched Hearst gossip columnist Lee Mortimer at Ciro's (a Hollywood hot night spot).

Sinatra was embroiled in controversy in 1981 when he worked a ten-day engagement for $2 million in Sun City, South Africa. He was criticized for the trip by Jesse Jackson, and the United Nations special committee on Apartheid condemned Sinatra as a collaborator in Apartheid.

Commenting on Sinatra and Rizzo’s testimony, the committee counsel said, ''It appears … that Mr. Sinatra’s testimony … was false, or the testimony of Mr. Rizzo before the [FBCC] was false. In either case one of the gentleman has committed perjury.''
