Franco, who is 45 years old, was born Francis Luambo. He has been playing guitar since he was a child, when he made his first instrument from an old can and nylon strings. At first, he played in the marketplace of Kinshasa, where his mother sold flour fritters. But by the time he was 12 years old he was already working professionally, and attracting notice, in a folk group called Watam.

HARRISBURG, Pa., March 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission (PHMC) Executive Director Barbara Franco today announced the Commission's approval of 27 new historical markers, which commemorate diverse people, places and events across the Commonwealth. Among those approved markers are the Chocolate Workers' Strike in Dauphin County in 1937 and the first public demonstration for gay and lesbian equality, which took place in Philadelphia in 1965.

He is active with the Olive Crest Foundation, an organization dedicated to preventing child abuse, treating victims of child abuse and preserving the family.
