Franco now began to remove all his main rivals for the leadership of the Nationalist forces. Some were forced into exile and nothing was done to help rescue José Antonio Primo de Rivera from captivity. However, when José Antonio was shot by the Republicans in November 1936, Franco exploited his death by making him a mythological saint of the fascist movement.

Born in Mexico in 1943, Judge Franco received his bachelor's degree from UCLA in 1964, then attended medical school before earning his Juris Doctor in 1969 from UC Davis School of Law. He was admitted into the State Bar of California in 1970. He served as a Judge Pro Tempore from 1975-1998 and has been admitted to practice law before all courts of the State of California, the 9th Circuit Court Appeals Federal Court and the United States Supreme Court.

Franco's strong anti-Communism made him popular with the United States and in 1950 Spain was allowed to join the United Nations. In 1953 Franco signed an agreement that enabled the United States to establish four air and naval bases in Spain. In return the National Atlantic Treaty Organization protected Franco's regime from foreign invasion.

To help design the next major show, Laliberté and Caron hired Franco Dragone, another instructor from the National Circus School who had been working in Belgium. When he joined the troupe in 1985, he brought with him his experience in commedia dell'arte techniques which he imparted on the performers. Although his experience would be limited in the next show due to budget restraints, he would go on to direct every show up to, but not including Dralion.[4]
