Francisco Pizarro: Panama City
built 643 days ago
On his first expedition with Balboa in 1509, Francisco Pizarro served as first mate. The mission was to explore what is now Panama, where Pizarro played an important part in founding Panama City as well as playing, for him, an important part in accumulating his own personal wealth.
For the Incas, Spanish victories belied a 'world turned upside down.' Francisco Pizarro led his army toward Cuzco. There they found a wondorous city, the richest place in all the Indies. The fall of Cuzco meant the triumph of a profane people against the Incas sacred ways. Worse, Spaniards began to arrive en masse after stories of gold reached Europe. Manco, Atahuallpa's half-brother, was installed as a puppet king. Discontent was brewing.
Pizarro Trujillo, an Extremaduran city about a half hour east of Cáceres was the home of Francisco Pizarro, the famous conqueror. Like many conquerors, Pizarro wasn't a very nice person. He is credited or blamed, depending on one's perspective, with destroying the Inca civilization in Peru. The Alexander Home Page is opposed to the wholesale destruction of civilizations, and, therefore, hereby condemns the actions of Pizarro!
