Foxy Brown is a genius, seriously. Her latest attempt to get out of jail involves her ears–which she should have used to listen to the judge back when she was put on probation. Had she done that–and behaved herself–she probably wouldn’t have ended up in jail in the first place. But alas, Foxy’s Blackberry-hurling ways landed her behind bars for a year, and now she’s written to the judge, attempting to get released early so that she can fix her on-again off-again hearing problem. Say what?

Foxy Brown was looking like a true Brooklyn Don Diva for a minute there - pulling strings from inside prison to ensure the completion of her newest album and its release. She recorded her vocals for "We’re On Fire" before entering Rikers Island prison, then Mavado laid down the track with his own vocals while she was adjusting to her new home. The album was due to drop this month, but a press release sent out today announces that it has been pushed to February 5 now. MORE

In the accompanying article, Brown breaks her silence on her recently announced hearing loss, the product of a rare condition that affects fewer than one in 10,000 people. Foxy first noticed symptoms at the beginning of the year, while recording her new album, Black Roses. After a doctor's visit failed to provide any relief, she chose to ignore the problem in the hope that it would simply go away. By the end of May... Brown realized that she was going deaf.

Brown is asking to be released from jail so she can go to California for hearing tests and repair of an electronic ear implant. Brown's hearing problems were revealed during a court appearance in late 2004. Her petition, filed Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2008, in Manhattan's state Supreme Court, says her condition is worsening in jail and she needs to go to a Los Angeles clinic to "have her cochlear implant reprogrammed and repaired or else face imminent harm to her hearing."
