1. Born on the Fourth of July
   Insightful and unapologetic, Born on the Fourth of July sears into your soul just as Stone’s previous films Platoon and Salvador did a few years earlier. 2. Born on the Fourth of July -- Ron Kovic
   The trio of Tom Cruise, Oliver Stone and Ron Kovic makes "Born on the Fourth of July" an honest and powerful drama. Stone had served in Vietnam and earned a Purple Heart and Bronze Star during his tour of duty. His first hand experience is easily trumped by that of Ron Kovic, whom the story is completely based upon. The hectic battle sequences during the first third of the film are just as potent as anything seen in "Platoon" and Stone is able to drive home the notion of just how hectic the combat became. Kovic delivers a gripping story about the pain and suffering that a paraplegic veteran had to endure when returning home from the War. Kovic was gung ho about the war and it took a great deal to turn his emotions from supporting the war to protesting it. Cruise is the final piece of the trio and this is the film that first showed that Tom Cruise is an actor quite capable of a dramatic role and any questions that the studio had in having Cruise portray a wheelchair bound Vietnam vet were quickly answered by the actor.

   Cruise, whose character became similarly disillusioned with America in Born on the Fourth of July, said raising children in the U.S. is a risky business. He said he could no longer keep his 'eyes wide shut' to America's terrorism threat, crime, faltering financial status and corporate corruption.

The eleven-story office building was constructed in 1987 and is located in the central business district of Norfolk.

   The study was scheduled to begin July 1 and an Endocrinology fellow, Dr. Danilo Fintini from Italy, is hired to do the research and begin July 12th... there are no funds available yet to pay him.    Collector Earl L. "Bill" Bailey has always been fascinated by World War II, and particularly this "dichotomy" of the war. He worked for nearly 40 years to create an assemblage of autographs of virtually all the military and political leaders of countries involved on both sides, as well as stamps, picture postcards and broadsides. The main focus of his collection is the Third Reich with signatures, letters and documents of the period documenting Hitler's rise to power and his eventual demise. There are a number of letters signed by German officers speaking of battles, anti-Semitic literature, and propaganda literature. Included are five Hitler autographs, one a postcard dated 28 March 1925, signed by Hitler three months after his release from prison as a result of his participation in the Beer-Hall Putsch. Another Hitler piece is a signed order dated 25 July 1943, in which Hitler calls for the stepping up of V-2 rocket production.

   Juli Inkster shattered the U.S. Women's Open scoring record by six shots with her fourth consecutive sub-par round Sunday, finishing 16-under for a five-shot victory over Sherri Turner at Old Waverly Golf Club.
