The Ford Freestar is a minivan made by the Ford Motor Company. It replaced the Ford Windstar for the 2004 model year. Although it is billed as "all new", it basically is a revamped Windstar. The name change accommodates Ford's strategy to rename their cars to words beginning in F. The Freestar is made in Canada. The Freestar offers a place for up to seven passengers, it features an electronically controlled 4-speed automatic transmission as the part of standard equipment, and is available with two gasoline-powered V6 engines. The smaller 3.9 L developes a maximum power of 193 hp 4500 RPM, while the larger 4.2 L offers a power of 201 hp 4,250 rpm.

The successor for the Ford Freestar is the Ford Flex which debuted at the 2007 New York International Auto Show. Sales of the Ford Flex will begin in the summer of 2008 as a 2009 model year. The Mercury Monterey is cancelled with the Freestar. It is unknown if Mercury will make a remake like Ford with the Flex. There is ... rumor about an upscale Lincoln version, called the MKT coming in 2010.[2] Ford will reportedly return to the minivan business with the compact Ford Transit Connect for the 2009 model year.

The Ford Freestar made its debut in 2004 as a minivan that could seat not more than seven passengers. It came into the market as a replacement for the Ministar. The Freestar initially came in five versions; base, SE, Sport, SEL and the Limited. The Freestar derived its power from two V6 engines that ran on gas, there was a 3.9 Liter engine available in the United States and a 4.2 Liter engine that was available in Canada. Though the vehicle was considered as a replacement for the Ministar, there was only a marginal improvement in the vehicle. The engines had become heavier than its predecessor and used more gas to travel the same distance.
