What is missing for the development of the perfect Flying Car is the application of a new gravity defying technology as mentioned above. Of course, many will believe that this technology is impossible to have. The reality is that this unique concept and feasibility already exists, and is under serious consideration.

The real downside to the Flying Car comes when everyone has one. You think you're surrounded by too many SUVs filled with bad drivers now? Wait till they can fly. They can't even parallel park properly -- how are they gonna do a perpendicular park out of a vertical drop? On the other hand, when someone cuts you off, you'll be able to flip them an actual bird!

Seriously, though, if this is intended to go from airport to airport, then this shouldn't be viewed as a flying car at all. It's really just an airplane that can drive on the highway. Unless you're a pilot (or your conjoined twin is), there's no reason for you to get one of these.

There will be flying cars, but there won’t be one in every drive way. If you could sell 1,000 a year you would be able to make big bucks. Planes are BIG profit items. New regs severely reduce the process by allowing you to skip certification and sell the plane as a “light sport aircraft” until you get sales going.
