Fluoride: Drinking
built 657 days ago
"Fluoride is a poison!" Yiamouyiannis warns." The 1984 issue of Clinical Toxicology of Commercial Products lists fluoride as more poisonous than lead and just slightly less poisonous than arsenic. It has been used as a pesticide for mice, rats and other small pests. A 10-pound infant could be killed by 1/100 of an ounce and a 100-pound adult could be killed by 1/10 of an ounce of fluoride. The Akron Regional Poison Center indicates that a 7-ounce tube of toothpaste contains 199 mg. of fluoride, more than enough to kill a 25-pound child."

Fluoride is a naturally occurring element. It is found in rocks and soil everywhere, in fresh water and ocean water. In fact, waters in and around the United States have natural fluoride levels that range from 0.1 parts per million to over 12 parts per million.
The fact that fluorides accumulate in the body is the reason that U.S. law requires the Surgeon General to set a Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL) for fluoride content in public water supplies as determined by the EPA. This requirement is specifically for the purpose of avoiding a condition known as Crippling Skeletal Fluorosis (CSF), a disease that progresses through three stages. The MCL, designed to prevent only the third and crippling stage of this disease, is set at 4ppm or 4mg per liter. It was assumed that people retain half of this amount (2mg), and therefore 4mg per liter is considered ``safe." However, a daily dose of 2-8 mg is known to cause the third crippling stage of CSF.

Fluoride's deleterious effect on bone is well documented. Early experiments using large doses of fluoride as a treatment for osteoporosis had disastrous results. Dr. C. Rich warned that rather than strengthening bones, fluoride could cause osteoarthritis, as well as gastric pain, calcification of the arteries, and visual disturbances.(108)

oral fluoride is considered as an effective means of reducing dental caries. Fluoride does not cause mutations but it has been shown to cause damage to chromosomes at high doses in studies in cell cultures. This has not been shown in most studies on test animals fed with fluoride.

Series A15/82 Fluoride Monitor Fluoride monitors require very little maintenance. One gallon of buffer will operate the system for about 45 days. The system ... performs an automatic calibration routine to correct for electrode "zero" drift. The fluoride standard is automatically pumped into the chemistry module and the analyzer zero is automatically adjusted. The frequency of this calibration is user selectable from every 1 to 999 hours. Calibration standards are easily mixed from a stock solution supplied with the unit and the buffer is easily prepared using common vinegar.
