Fluid Dynamics DVD cover Fluid Dynamics 58th Annual Meeting (DFD05) was held in Chicago, November 20-22, 2005. The meeting was jointly hosted by the Northwestern University, Illinois Institute of Technology, and University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Detailed information is available both on this website and at the APS Meetings website.

Incorporated in 1974, Fluid Dynamics was an active participant in the design and construction of wastewater treatment plants. A principal owner was ... a representative of a popular mechanical polymer blending system but recognized the maintenance and performance problems of this type of system. It was with this experience and knowledge in plant design and polymer systems that Fluid Dynamics shifted its focus to polymer blending technology.
Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) has grown from a mathematical curiosity to become an essential tool in almost every branch of fluid dynamics, from aerospace propulsion to weather prediction. CFD is commonly accepted as referring to the broad topic encompassing the numerical solution, by computational methods, of the governing equations which describe fluid flow, the set of the Navier-Stokes equations, continuity and any additional conservation equations, for example energy or species concentrations.

The Mach number is a measurement used in fluid dynamics that compares the velocity of an object traveling through a fluid to the speed of sound in that fluid. For example, the speed of sound in air at sea level at a temperature of 59°F (15°C) is about 760 miles per hour (340 meters per second). Imagine an airplane flying just above the ocean at a speed of 380 miles per hour (170 meters per second). In that case, the Mach number of the airplane would be 380 miles per hour divided by 760 miles per hour (380 mph ÷ 760 mph) or 0.5.
A better understanding of solid-fluid interface dynamics, how the boundary between a solid and a fluid acquires and maintains its shape, can contribute to improved materials processing applications. The morphological (shape) stability of an advancing solid-fluid interface is a key problem in such materials processing activities as the growth of homogeneous single crystals. Experiments in low-gravity, with significant reductions in buoyancy-driven convection, could allow mass transport in the fluid phase by diffusion only. Such conditions are particularly attractive for testing existing theories for processes and for providing unique data to advance theories for chemical systems where the interface interactions strongly depend on direction and shape.
Fluid Dynamics DVD cover Fluid Dynamics is a good movie. It is enjoyable to watch. Definitely not paddle porn though, it is more documentary like. The sections featuring the Modi Kohla and the Marsayangdi in Nepal have actually been selected by the National Geographic to be broadcast on their european channel "Adventure One" in a program entitled Total Adventure in early 2004.
