Flu Shots Photo Eastern Nebraska Office on Aging annual Flu Shot Clinics provide influenza vaccinations designed to help protect against the most common strains of influenza expected to invade the United States. Previously known as the Visiting Nurse Foundation, Health Hope Network still operates the largest largest community flu-shot program in the Pittsburgh region as the FLU BGONE program. Flu clinics can be found at hundreds of Pittsburgh area locations, including Shop 'n Save locations and National City Banks, as well as more than 50 churches. Flu shots are available to people 9 years of age and older and will cost approximately $26 (some insurance plans are accepted). The first flu shot clinics open October 2, 2007.
Cost of the flu shot is $25 and $34.95 for FluMist. For an additional charge of $40, pneumonia vaccine can be administered to provide a minimum of six years protection against 23 bacteria strains, which most commonly cause pneumonia. Medicare Part B is accepted for both vaccinations. The clinics will administer flu vaccines to patients 18 years of age and older, or 9-18 years of age with parental consent. Children not meeting these requirements may contact their local pediatrician for flu vaccines.

Most local free flu shot clinics have been canceled this year. And it's a matter of hit or miss if you can get a shot from your physician. The health department is tracking vaccine availability and as of Monday reported there was none to be found in Lackawanna, Luzerne, Monroe, Pike, Susquehanna, Wayne or Wyoming counties. Still, health officials are urging patience.
Doctors' offices have an ample supply of vaccine, and CVS pharmacies and local groceries still are offering flu shot clinics. The van will be in the Safeway parking lot in Middleburg from 3 to 6 p.m. Jan. 28. It accepts Medicare and Medicaid but cannot process private insurance claims. The flu shot costs $25.
