When most people think of the Sunshine State, Florida Panthers tickets are not the first things to come to mind. The Florida Panthers are one of five teams in the Southeast Division of the Eastern Conference of the National Hockey League (NHL). The Panthers play at the National Car Rental Center in Sunrise, Florida, and wear uniforms of red, navy blue, yellow-gold, and white. The club is named for an endangered black cat that inhabits remote portions of south Florida.

Perhaps the Florida Panthers spoiled their fans a little bit when in 1993-94, their first year of existence, they nearly posted a .500 record and made the Stanley Cup playoffs. Then just two seasons later, the Panthers made it to the Stanley Cup Finals, where they lost to the Colorado Avalanche. The Florida Panthers moved into the National Car Rental Center (now known as Bank Atlantic Center) in 1998, the new arena being the result of bickering and threatening to move the team. In 1999, they acquired Pavel Bure (the "Russian Rocket"), in a blockbuster trade with the Vancouver Canucks. They would reach the playoffs again in 2000 riding on his 58 goals, losing in the first round to the eventual Stanley Cup Champion New Jersey Devils.

Florida Panthers are extremely rare, numbering only 30-50 in the entire United States. They are being seriously threatened by human development and car accidents. However, many improvements have been made to sustain the Florida Panther population. The construction of panther under-passes on highways, reduced speed zones, and public education has helped stop the depletion of this species.
