Flood (Flood, Cynthia - Short Story)
built 627 days ago
The water for the Flood came mostly from the "fountains of the deep." Where is this water now? A globe of the earth will show that the earth's surface is 2/3rds water, with the average height of land less than 5000 feet. The ocean basins, on the other hand, are on the average 12,000 feet deep. If one were to bulldoze the present land surface into the oceans so that the earth was absolutely level everywhere, at least a mile of water would cover everything. A number of scientists believe there was much more water in the earth's upper atmosphere prior to the Flood, producing a uniform, sub-tropical climate everywhere with almost no seasonal changes, violent storms or even regular rain and snowfall. It is has been suggested that the surface barometric pressure before the Flood may have been twice as high as it is now.

Walton next downplays the "scientific evidence" by contending that the Flood waters could not have covered the tallest mountains, including Mt. Everest. Furthermore, he suggests that Noah could never have gotten all the creatures now in the world on the ark. And even if he did, he could not take care of them adequately.

The Flood Barrier’s Rapidam system requires the pre-flood installation of a bolt down barrier by professional installers. Prior to the potential of flooding, the Rapidam system is unrolled and fastened to the preset bolts. The system is typically delivered in 30-foot lengths that are joined together by means of a patented five-tooth ziplock. All RAPIDAM flood barriers are joined together by zipping the lengths of barrier material to each other and then adding an extra measure of security with french lacing over each zipper to provide increased durability. Two men can deploy approximately 20 yards of the system in about 10 minutes. The material the barrier is treated with anti-U.V.

The success which had ... far attended Flood's efforts had placed him in a position such as no Irish politician had previously attained. He had, as an eminent historian of Ireland observes, proved himself beyond all comparison the greatest popular orator that his country had yet produced, and also a consummate master of parliamentary tactics. Under parliamentary conditions that were exceedingly unfavourable, and in an atmosphere charged with corruption, venality and subserviency, he had created a party before which ministers had begun to quail, and had inoculated the Protestant constituencies with a genuine spirit of liberty and self-reliance. Lord Harcourt, who succeeded Townsend as viceroy, saw that Flood must be conciliated at any price rather than risk the opposition of so formidable a leader.

The world before the Flood was quite different from the world today. Since it did not rain before the Flood (Genesis 2:5), yet rivers flowed (v.10), there must have been great subterranean reservoirs of water. At the appointed time, the "fountains of the great deep" (Genesis 7:11) spewed out their aquatic and volcanic contents while the "windows of heaven were opened" as some form of water was precipitated. Coupling these mechanisms with the fact that 70% of the earth is covered with water in sufficient quantity to cover the entire (flattened out) earth to a depth of about 7,500 feet, we can conclude that the biblical story is, indeed, quite reasonable. The topography was much less pronounced before the Flood. Present mountain ranges are mostly sedimentary rocks or volcanoes attributable to a flood.

The following brief news article is highly relevant for understanding what could well have happened in the earth's crust at the time of the Flood of Noah. Note especially the transformation of serpentine into olivine is accompanied by the release of lots of water.
