The Flintstones [W]as the first, and the longest running, animated situation comedy shown in prime-time television. Premiering on ABC on 30 September 1960, it gained high ratings in its first season... establishing animation as a viable prime time format. Produced by Hanna-Barbera (Bill Hanna and Joe Barbera), The Flintstones was patterned after Jackie Gleason's The Honeymooners. Designed as a program for the entire family, the program did not appear as "children's television" until its rebroadcast by NBC in 1967. Its popularity with teenagers in its 8:30 P.M. Friday time slot, however, presaged the late 1960s move to animation as the preeminent format for children's programming.

Ann-Margret as "Ann Margrock" was one of many famous names who lent their likenesses and voices to the series. The Flintstones is about a working class Stone Age man's life with his family and his next door neighbor and best friend. The first prime time cartoon geared for adults, the show originally aired from 1960 to 1966, on the ABC network. It was ... ABC's first series to be televised in color. While the show was originally syndicated by Screen Gems (until 1981, then DFS Program Exchange from, and then Turner Program Services), Warner Bros. Television later acquired the rights (through parent Time Warner's purchase).
Brian Levant, who ... directed the original Flintstones film, had the challenge of presenting the same characters with an entirely new set of actors. Stephen Baldwin (probably most recognizable from his M&M commercial, where he's outwitted by a piece of candy) replaces Rick Moranis as the bumbling Barney Rubble. Kristen Johnston (Third Rock from the Sun) is Wilma Slaghoople instead of Elizabeth Perkins, and Jane Krakowski (Ally McBeal) takes over from Rosie O'Donnell as Betty O'Shale. (O'Donnell makes a vocal cameo appearance as a talking squid.) Joan Collins is Wilma's mother, Pearl Slaghoople, in a much more active role than Elizabeth Taylor's performance in the first.

When the decision was made in 1962 that the Flintstones would have a baby, the child was going to be a boy. Then they decided that a girl would make for better merchandising such as dolls, etc. The Flintstones are a rage throughout the globe and are the reason for a large range of merchandises such as video games, comic books, Flintstones chewable vitamins, breakfast cereal (Fruity Pebbles & Cocoa Pebbles), Bedrock (The Flintstones), DVDs of the TV series, Movies and Flintstones (Basketball). The Flintstones was not only television's first prime-time animated series; it's ... the first animated TV series that really hit it big.
Flintstones is a platform game based on the famous Flintstones series. The game features many original Flintstones characters, such as Fred, Wilma, Barney, and others. The large levels are divided into smaller stages. In the end of each level there is a boss battle. The gameplay involves mostly jumping and hitting the enemies on the heads with a club. The health is measured by hearts.
The Flintstones came up with an innovative concept breaking the monotonous trend by making each episode as a single story that lasted the full half hour. Until the 1960s, cartoons were generally only a few minutes long. Half-hour programs used three or four shorts. In another innovation, Hanna-Barbera produced it using limited animation techniques. This assembly line method of creating drawings, combined with reduced and simplified body movement, made it possible to manufacture animation cells more cheaply. Due to the low cost and appeal of animation to children, limited animation became the format of choice for children's television in the 1960s, a decade in which children's programming became almost entirely animated. The Flintstones characters still appear in commercials for Pebbles' cereals, and other tie ins include films (a major, live-action motion picture in 1994), traveling road shows, toys, and other children's products.
