Scott Stone - Buckingham Pattern Flagging Flagging or Flatwork is a term used in referring to the installation of patios and walkways. This material can be installed on a concrete slab using mortar, or dry-layed on a base of rock screenings or coarse sand. The method you choose will have a bearing on the type and thickness of the stone to be used.

Flagging--the browning of older leaves and twigs--is a common occurrence on western red-cedar and related trees, such as arborvitae. It usually develops in late summer to early fall. Often, very hot, dry weather, followed by rain, will stimulate the sudden dropping of this older foliage.
Flagging is widely used in wildland fire suppression both as a navigational aid for firefighters and to mark trees. When walking to a wildfire a crew may use flagging to flag their way to the fire, both to aid other firefighters in quickly finding the site and so they can find their way back out easily. Specially marked flagging ... exists for fire use, imprinted with terms such as "spot fire" or "escape route".
To reduce the volume of ELINT traffic that is forwarded for analysis, flagging employs a substantial amount of automation. Typically, up to 10,000 signals per day in various formats must be evaluated to determine how each of these signals would be processed by radar signal detection sets (RSDS) and jammers. To accomplish this sizable task, signals are processed in several steps, with expert system technology employed throughout the process to minimize human intervention. ELINT intercepts arrive from the field in several formats. The first task for an automated system is to parse these messages into a single, consistent format. Of course, message traffic has been known to contain format errors.
