COTUIT -At 2:45 p.m. Friday Barnstable Police and Cotuit Fire responded to a two-vehicle crash at Newtown Road and Route 28 in Cotuit. When they arrived they found that a Chrysler sedan had been broadsided by an Isuzu truck. Cotuit rescue called for mutual aid rescue from Centerville, Osterville, Marstons Mills (COMM) fire. Two people were taken to the hospital by ambulances. The scene and traffic were tied up for an hour and a half for investigation and cleanup. (Story and photos by Frank Paparo/CWN).

The turntable ladder is the best-known form of fire truck, but there are ... "cherry pickers", rescue tenders, floodlight trucks and other specialized units. A "Tiller" or "Hook-and-Ladder" truck (a semi-trailer carrying a turntable ladder), formerly much used in the United States but are becoming rarer today, requires two drivers, as it has separate steering wheels for front and rear wheels (the steering device for the rear is sometimes a tiller rather than a true steering wheel). This truck is often used in areas with narrow streets that prohibit the longer single vehicle trucks from entering.
