The rest of Final Cut Pro 3's enhancements are a grab bag of useful additions. A new storage format, called OfflineRT, enables you to store roughly 40 minutes of video per gigabyte--about nine times the normal amount of DV footage--for editing and previewing. OfflineRT is a refined version of a technique that experienced Final Cut Pro editors have been using for some time. It's particularly well suited to working on the road: you can use the OfflineRT format to edit a project on your PowerBook, then create its full-resolution version when you return to the studio.

The most notable new feature in Final Cut Pro 6.0 is the Open Format Timeline. In previous versions, you had to choose one frame size, one frame rate and one codec to process a video sequence - but no longer. If you have a fast enough machine, you can now mix frame sizes, frame rates, and codecs in a sequence.

A Few Bugs in Apple Final Cut Pro 6 Final Cut Pro has a lot of great filters, and Creative Cow leader Shane Ross found a number of them that he thought would look great as transitions. It turns out that really do! In this video tutorial, he shows you just how easily you too can build truly unique transitions with filters.
Final Cut Pro 6 (Apple Pro Training) The scalability, performance and Emmy Award-winning workflow of Final Cut Pro 6 makes it the first choice of professional editors everywhere. For those clamoring to get in on the action, this best-selling, Apple-certified book uses a series of class-length lessons designed to provide a strong foundation in all aspects of video editing. World-class footage and the proven record of the market-leading Apple Pro Training Series are the hallmarks of this book. Using the project and media files on the accompanying DVD, readers work step by step through the book's exercises, learning to cut a scene from the USA Network television series Monk, create a promo for Seaworld's Belief documentary, and master filters and effects as they edit a segment of BBC's Living Color. Master teacher Diana Weynand starts with basic editing skills and moves on to creating transitions, applying filters, real-time color correcting, titling techniques, mixing sound, and working with multi-format and multi-camera footage.

Support for Final Cut Pro 3.0 is excellent. Besides two volumes of user manuals, you'll ... find a separate tutorial manual, 90 days of free technical phone support, and online help from within the program. However, this app is definitively not for beginners. Apple's tech support handles almost any technical problem but doesn't cover basic editing techniques. The included tutorial and DV media, however, do explain most of the basics of filmmaking.
Final Cut Pro is built for speed. RT Extreme delivers real-time performance for more than 150 filters and effects as well as for multistream video. Dynamic RT adjusts image quality and frame rate on the fly for optimal playback on any system. Use the SmoothCam feature to automatically stabilize shaky shots while preserving standard camera moves. Easily swap out video clips and edit text in motion graphics without leaving Final Cut Pro, using editable Motion 3 master templates.
