Fillings: Teeth
built 253 days ago
For your first appointment, your teeth will be shaped to accommodate the fillings, removing all decay and foreign material. A mold, or impression, will be taken of your teeth. Dr. Spinner will send the impression to one of the best dental labs in the country, which will then create your custom fillings. Dr. Spinner will receive your fillings back from the lab in about two weeks. In the meantime, you will wear temporary dental bonding.

When they were first introduced in the 1960s, composite fillings were used only on front teeth. Today, technology has created a composite that can stand up to the pressure and wear and tear of the back teeth. Dr. Patel will evaluate the condition of your teeth to determine whether porcelain fillings can replace your current metal fillings.

White fillings are more natural looking than the regular metallic (amalgam) fillings. Metallic fillings can turn black with age and they are easy to see inside your mouth. White fillings match the color of your teeth. Therefore, they give your teeth a more natural look.

These are the other type of white fillings. They are not as nice looking as composite as they have large bits of glass in them which produces a rough texture. The main advantage of these materials is that they release fluoride which helps prevent decay. This makes them popular for fillings in childrens teeth.

When amalgam fillings are placed in teeth or removed from teeth, they release mercury vapor. Mercury vapor is ... released during chewing. Some people believe that this mercury vapor can cause health problems, including neurological disorders, in certain sensitive individuals.

[S]ometimes, front fillings fail in another way. There's a tremendous amount of force on the edges of teeth when you bite together. As you can see here, some of the tooth broke away from the biting edge as a result of biting pressure.
