Central Florida developer Mark Blythe has sued Fifth Third Bank for slander in Orange County (Orlando) court, alleging that the mistake prevented him from closing loans for the acquisition of properties he intended to rehab, ruining his business. He is claiming more than $80,000 in damages. Elsewhere, Barb Dwulet, a real estate agent in Myrtle Beach, S.C., announced she first found out about the problem when she tried to refinance her home mortgage and learned that her credit score dropped by 100 points. The reason was a reported delinquency on an unrelated mortgage loan owned by R-G Crown Bank, an Orlando bank that Fifth Third acquired last fall. Fifth Third announced that during the conversion, thousands of paid-off mortgages on Crown's books were mistakenly reported by a vendor to national credit bureaus as active and delinquent.
