Koslow Miller, who writes for Art Forum magazine in addition to her teaching duties, said chapter members responded to the Danforth's presentation of "a wonderful selection of feminist expressionist" paintings by Snyder. "The themes in Joan Snyder's works are fairly consistent. She's a strong female presence in which pain blooms," she said.
Denise Bibro Fine Art is showing a recent series of multi-media works by Lea Barton through March 6. Barton’s show, titled South, features collage and paint combined with photography and printmaking techniques to create richly layered works that explore the material and political history of the South, and dissect stereotypes of femininity in Antebellum and contemporary Southern culture. Through photographic self-portraits, Barton takes on multiple identities such as the virginal veiled bride, burlesque vixen, prom queen, and Miss America, supported by female ephemera like dressmaker’s patterns, and lace.

This is an anthology of articles, published in CRITICAL INQUIRY between 1980 and 1982, that analyze various conjunctions of literature, language, and feminist theories. The essays include overviews, readings of works--from Isak Dinesen to Aristophanes--and issues such as transvestism and the representation of lesbianism and friendship in lesbian literature.
