Feminist Art: Feminist Art Project
built 176 days ago
The Feminist Art Project aims to effect permanent change by focusing on the impact of feminism on the art world, feminist content in art, and feminist analysis in art and art history and other cultural arenas. Artists, groups and presenters may post their national and international exhibitions, publications and programs that serve this mission on the calendar. All visual art media are eligible for inclusion.

Feminist activist art is hard to define but seems easy to recognize. Feminist art often pushes traditional definitions of ‘art’ and ‘activism,’ particularly those art activist projects which focus on collaborative approaches to bring attention to critical issues in the lives of women. The art world often views such efforts as more politic than art, and in activist circles the use of art practices to further activist goals can be overlooked as an effective approach. Successful activist art projects often share particular characteristics that contribute to their effectiveness.

Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago is holding an event called Stitch ‘n’ Bitch every fourth Tuesday of the month from 5:30-8:00 pm. This event invites knitters to bring their needles and yarn to knit and exchange techniques and stories. The event welcomes needle workers of all levels to participate in this fresh adaptation of the traditional sewing circle. This is going to be a great opportunity to experience and reflect upon the history of female labor and its relationship to visual art and culture. And on Tuesday, February 26, guest artist Anni Holm brings her NewWorking project to share with participants.
