The National Restaurant Association forecasts that fast-food restaurants in the U.S. will reach US$142 billion in sales in 2006, a 5% increase over 2005. In comparison, the full-service restaurant segment of the food industry is expected to generate $173 billion in sales. (Hidalgo) - Hidalgo, the city of almost 11,000 that hosts millions of travelers each year crossing in from Reynosa, is gearing up for its very first full-service supermarket and a fast-food restaurant. The 25,000-square-foot Hidalgo Supermarket slated for the city is going up on the corner of 15th Street and El Texano Drive, east of downtown and is expected to be ready for customers in early November. Just down Highway 281, Stars Restaurant is building its first location in Hidalgo. The fast-food spot should ... open in November and employ between 30 and 40 people.

But she consents to show off her newly acquired knowledge of colors by pointing out a yellow and a red. Then she runs off to talk to a stranger in the next booth. Samantha is suffering from ADHD and asthma. Little Josh is tiny for 5 months and hasn't yet rolled over.
Despite being dominated in the advertising media by the mega fast-food chains, such as McDonald's, most restaurants are small operations. More than 70 percent are independent, single unit businesses with fewer than 20 employees, and one out of every three are owned by a sole proprietor or a partnership. According to the National Restaurant Association, in 2000 a full service food-and-drink establishment had average annual revenues of $650,000, and a fast-food restaurant took in an annual average of $585,000.

Many fast-food restaurants, (... known as "Quick Service Restaurants" or QSR) are part of restaurant chains or franchise operations, and standardized foodstuffs are shipped to each restaurant from central locations. There are also simpler fast-food outlets, such as stands or kiosks, which may or may not provide shelter or chairs for customers.
