A central part of Far Cry Instincts is the feral abilities you acquire as you progress through the single payer campaign. One of the first abilities you discover is Feral Strength, which allows you to run up to your opponents and punch them 20 meters across the map. It closely resembles Halo 2's sword attack and is activated in a similar manner. Using Feral Strength is entertaining and often comes as a welcome break from constantly using guns. Feral Vision will become an integral part of progressing through the darker levels. Towards the end of the campaign Feral Speed is often needed to jump over massive gaps, simply escape from the attack helicopters or give you the edge over enemies.

Far Cry Instincts was one of the best games released on the Xbox last year, and it didn't take long for Ubisoft and developer Ubisoft Montreal to churn out Far Cry Instincts Evolution, an all-new Jack Carver adventure. Don't worry, though--despite the new name, not much has changed. The action still takes place on remote Pacific islands, and once again, you'll be able to skulk around the jungle to your heart's content. Evolution packages this new campaign along with an improved multiplayer suite. It's basically more like an expansion than a full campaign, as it's about half the length of the original campaign. This is reflected in Evolution's price, which is a little more than half that of the original game.

Far Cry Instincts Predator has a whole lot of value since the game includes two games and a full-fledged multiplayer mode. If you haven’t played Instincts, this is definitely worth of your time. If you have, it’s probably not since you can get the additional campaign in the Xbox version of Predator for a much cheaper price.

Far Cry Instincts features a number of multiplayer modes such as Chaos, Team Chaos, Capture the flag and Predator. Predator is a mode unique to Far Cry Instincts and works on the principal that one player has all the feral abilities enabled and has to play against all the other players who don't have any feral abilities. A major part of the multiplayer possibilities the game has to offer is the Map editor. It's highly sophisticated and clearly more powerful than the one recently seen in Pariah, although it lacks the objective features seen in Timesplitters Future Perfect, some highly captivating and creative multiplayer maps can still be made using this. Community creations can ... be downloaded and played over Xbox Live, meaning if you get bored of the game's existing multiplayer maps you can download endless new content.

Far Cry Instincts Predator includes two campaigns: the original Far Cry campaign (which was ported to Instincts on Xbox) and a new Predator campaign. In the original campaign, you’ll learn about former Navy guy Jack Carter, who now runs a charter boat operation. He somehow gets stranded on an island, and is eventually injected with a serum that makes him especially skilled with weapons. Far Cry was praised for its mix of action, stealth and open-ended nature since there are many ways to get something done thanks to the large island. Playing the original campaign lets new users experience it.

Far Cry Instincts isn't just about skulking around in the jungle, though; combat plays an equal role in the game. Firefights can be a lot of fun in Far Cry Instincts, mainly due to their wild nature. You'll battle a host of tough foes, some human and some not, and even a small firefight can feel like a victory, especially if you can come through it relatively unscathed. While the human foes are fairly standard for the genre, there are some monsters in here that will make you jump out of your seat. The game ... does an excellent job of making you dread what's next. You'll often "sense" new foes before you actually encounter them, as you'll see them scamper out the corner of your eye or hear them rustling in the bushes--or, even worse, encounter the devastation they left behind.
