Fantasy Zone

Graphically, Fantasy Zone doesn't compare at all to other Playstation games, it doesn't even stand up into comparison to other Sega Ages games. While this is mostly for nostalgic style, Fantasy Zone looks a lot like the arcade version of the game. All of the graphics are cel shaded so they have a cartoon look to them. However, you can rarely tell that cel shading is even being used by this game since you're moving on a 2D plane. It almost feels like all of that technology has gone to waste. The only real time you can experience cel shading is when you're in the bonus stage after a boss battle.

The original Fantasy Zone for the arcade is often considered the best of the series, if mostly because it's running the strongest hardware. The home systems (at least, up until the 32-bit era) just couldn't handle the insanely bright colors or capture the sound or the supper happy, Latin-inspired soundtrack. While it sets down high standards for the rest of the game, it does have some quirks - mainly, it's quite difficult, even on the lowest difficult setting. It does introduce several aspects that have become mainstays in gaming, as you refight all of the bosses at the end of the game, and your final enemy is gigantic, evil version of Opa Opa.
The Fantasy Zone is once again under seige! Dark menon is back, and his forces are stronger then ever! Guide Opa-Opa through hosts of creepy creatures and stop the Menons for good.
Long ago, far away in space, there existed a "Fantasy Zone" where a courageous hero called Opa-Opa fought in a valiant cause to rescue the "Fantasy Zone" from its enemies. In the space year 6216, the interplanetary monetary system collapsed, causing all of the planets to become panic-stricken. According to an official inquiry made by the space guild, someone is leading the Menon planet forces, using them to steal the foreign currencies of the other planets, and with the funds, construct a huge fortress in the "Fantasy Zone."
