Falklands War: United States
built 656 days ago
Britain was victorious in the Falklands War because it was free to shape its own destiny and willing to use military power to aggressively defend its interests. Today, Great Britain faces a stark choice between sinking into mediocrity in an increasingly centralized European Union with a largely pacifist approach to international affairs, or acting as a powerful global leader alongside the United States and other English-speaking nations such as Australia and Canada. For the future security of the free world, the choice must be to lead.

Though not given a specific name, Bond used the element of war within the text at various times. Bob's girlfriend Rose sings a song asking, "Do the troops shoot/ To kill your stomach but not your head? They shoot to kill/ You drop down dead" (99). Another character within the play, Gabriel the blind swineherd, serves a small but pivotal role in the understanding of the politics of war. Gabriel is the only character in the play with a true connection to war, where he lost his eyesight in battle. He stated, "People allus fuss over what they can't mend.

The just war tradition provides a number of tests on the basis of which the moral legitimacy of the recourse to violence to secure political ends may be determined. Prominent amongst these is that there must be a just cause. That is, there must be some worthy moral end to be achieved whose value will offset the inevitable losses of war. This statement implies a second requirement for a just war. In order that the ends do justify the means (in this sense), there must be some proportion between the value of the ends sought, and the cost of achieving them, in terms of human lives and the destruction of property. Speaking generally, it may be said that a great deal of the killing of war has been gratuitous.

Notwithstanding this a legend has grown up around Militant's alleged position at the time of the Falklands/Malvinas War. Ultra-left critics give the impression that Militant did not oppose the war. The above statement and those in the theoretical journal Militant International Review in June 1982 makes the position absolutely clear: "We are against this capitalist war."

The current Iraq war plan, Op Plan 1003, was some 200 pages with 20-plus annexes numbering another 600 pages on logistics, intelligence, air, land and sea operations. According to this plan, it would take the United States roughly seven months to move a force of 500,000 to the Middle East before launching military operations. Renuart went to see General Franks, who had received only a vague indication there had been discussion in Washington about the Iraq war plan. Renuart now had more detail.

The Latvian parliament has repeatedly rejected a bill on the status of soldiers of the Anti-Hitler coalition in World War II. The Opposition demanded benefits for Latvian citizens and non-citizens who fought in the anti-Hitler coalition during the 1941-1945 war, including guerilla forces. Currently this group have no benefits at all and opposition feels that Soviet veterans should have at least the same status as national resistance participants, including the veterans of the Waffen SS.
