Fairy Tales: Book
built 627 days ago
Most fairy tales are quite old, and have been passed by word of mouth by centuries. Therefore, many fairy tales exist in many different versions, depending on where and when they have been written down. The "best" source for them are the German Grimm brothers, who collected a lot of fairty tales and were the first to publish them in a book. This book can be thought of the "canonical" version, because these versions are the ones with the largest print volume.

A postman goes on his rounds delivering mail to the characters from fairy tales. The pages become envelopes or pockets in which the letters, junk mail and postcards can be found. Besides offering an amusing look at a large variety of mail, the book serves as a reminder of the tales from which the characters come.

This novel for 8-12 year olds is an odd and engrossing fairy tale. It has a lot in common with Grimm's fairy tales. Author Kate DiCamillo was awarded a Newbery Medal for the book.
Have a variety of different fairy tale books displayed throughout the classroom where students can see them and look at them. This could be a great reading center. This may be something you can set up a week ahead of time.
