The waters of the Chena River overflowed in 1967, flooding Fairbanks. The disaster, in some ways, was an economic boon. Chena Hot Springs Resort is located sixty miles outside of Fairbanks. Along your way out to Chena Hot Springs you have a very good chance of seeing moose and other wildlife.
