Facebook is the second largest social network on the web, behind only MySpace in terms of traffic. Primarily focused on high school to college students, Facebook has been gaining market share, and more significantly a supportive user base. Since their launch in February 2004, they’ve been able to obtain over 8 million users in the U.S. alone and expand worldwide to 7 other English-speaking countries, with more to follow. The New South Wales Department of Education and Training has ... blocked all users (students and staff) from accessing Facebook, as have many other government departments in Australia. The City of New York Department of Health and Hospitals blocks Facebook from use at work.
This is a flat out patent infringement accusation, and the plaintiff is requesting royalties from Facebook. The patent claims relate to social networks built around communities of users with “common interests.” Facebook, which bases networks around universities, business, etc., is naturally the largest target for the patent offensive.

Facebook Revamps New Advertising System - Beacon - ReliefInsite, which launched its web-based pain management system in August, has implemented a new release that makes both free and premium diaries available to users of Facebook. The company helps patients communicate better with their doctors by collecting essential medical details — such as pain location, intensity, and medications (premium diary only) — and automatically organizing these details into medical reports that patients can print and give their doctor or share on Facebook.
