The controls are easy to use once learned and everything is easily accessible, even programmable, at all times. However, there are a few minor issues with the control layout some people may have. For instance, during battle you may get your combo multiplier up high enough to do a special attack by pushing the B button. Unfortunately, the B button is ... the run button, so if you're running from enemy to enemy you'll find yourself accidentally doing this powerful attack as soon as you enter enemy range, thus wasting it. This isn't that big of a deal though as they're easy to earn back. Holding the R button gives all the buttons different commands; your D-Pad becomes your favourite civilian interactions and the A, B, Y, and X buttons are all used for your will attacks (so you may accidentally find yourself frying a poor sap with lightning when all you meant to do was belch in his face if you aren't careful).

[A]n unusual feature of questing Fable is the ‘boast’ feature, and the trophies you gain from completing quests. When you take a new quest from the Hero’s Guild, you can ... choose to gamble extra renown and monetary reward on your ability to complete the quest with a boast attached. This is a completely optional part of the game, by the way, but it can be fun to claim you’ll be able to complete a potentially violent quest ‘without a scratch,’ or without using weapons or magic.

Fablescreenshot Fable's storyline, which is punctuated by an elegant sequence of paintings showing your hero's latest exploits, is mostly linear and starts slowly once you get past the childhood prologue. Past the halfway point, it actually becomes fairly involving, since its few key characters become relatively fleshed out. However, the hero himself remains silent during all the proceedings, and all the moral decisions you've made have little effect on what happens or how it happens. The game does have multiple endings depending on your morality and ultimate decisions you make, but each version of the epilogue is very brief, and it's fairly easy to see the numerous different alternatives without having to play through the game from the beginning. This is partly because your character's morality can be reversed just by visiting one of two different locations in the game, respectively devoted to a good and an evil god.
Fable's story centers around a male character referred to in the game only as Hero. When this hero was a child, the town his family lived in was raided and destroyed by unsavory characters that ... killed his father and abducted his sister and mother. Shortly after, he was taken in by the Hero's Guild where he was trained and grew to become a true hero. As an adult, Hero began a quest to find out what happened to his family and why.
Fable isn’t always awe-inspiring, and its combat lock-on system can be frustrating, but what it introduces to the genre is fantastic. “Watching” gamers’ playing tendencies and assigning experience points accordingly is ingenious, and it really makes players practice their skills.

The sound in games like this is essential, and Fable nails it in every single way. The orchestrated score is absolutely phenomenal, and the sound effects are near perfect as well, all the way down from clanging weapons, breaking barrels and dying creatures to the opening treasure chests and even navigating the interface. Lionhead went balls to the wall in this regard, and it brilliantly pushes this game over and well beyond the edge. The voice acting in this game is extremely well done (all of it of British origin). Every single character is portrayed flawlessly, and while there is a certain amount of repetition in what the characters say, it doesn't detract from the game in any way.
