The F-16 Fighting Falcon is a compact, multi-role fighter aircraft. It is highly maneuverable and has proven itself in air-to-air combat and air-to-surface attack. It provides a relatively low-cost, high-performance weapon system for the United States and allied nations. The F-16first flew in December 1976. The first operational F-16A was delivered in January 1979 to the 388th Tactical Fighter Wing at Hill Air Force Base, Utah.

The Lockheed Martin F-16 Fighting Falcon is an American multirole jet fighter aircraft originally developed by General Dynamics for the United States Air Force. Designed as a lightweight fighter, it evolved into a successful multirole aircraft. The Falcon's versatility is a paramount reason it was a success on the export market, serving 24 countries.[2] The F-16 is the largest Western fighter program with over 4,000 aircraft built since production started in 1976. Though no longer produced for the US Air Force, it is still produced for export.[3] In 1993, General Dynamics sold its aircraft manufacturing business to the Lockheed Corporation,[4] which in turn became part of Lockheed Martin after a 1995 merger with Martin Marietta.[5]

The F-16 Fighting Falcon (AKA Viper) has evolved into one of the world's most capable fighting machines. The first production variants were the F-16A (single-seat) and F-16B (two-seat) variants. The F-16C (single-seat), the F-16D (two-seat) and later-variant F-16Cs followed. In 1980, the multinational staged improvement program (MSIP) was implemented, which essentially allowed a designed-in, future-upgrade capability that took place in three stages. The F-16Cs are well known in the community by the block numbers and additional alpha designators. The most common F-16C is the block 25/30 series, which is the general-purpose dogfighting/bomb-dropping Viper.

The F-16 Fighting Falcon is equipped with this version of the ACES II. It replaced an Escapac seat used in the prototypes and early aircraft. This version differs from most of the rest of the ACES II seats in the configuration of the main ejection handles. The F-16 and the F-22 ACES II seats use a center-pull handle similar to that of the Escapac seats. They ... vary in the angle of the seat back to the seat pan which is more obtuse to allow for better comfort in the cockpit. The F-16 ACES II is setup with a seat back angle of 30 degrees to allow for the pilot's physiological response to the G-forces of combat maneuvering.
