The Holographic Zoo of Extinct Animals was a museum on Coruscant that showed holographic dioramas of extinct creatures hunting, feeding and fighting in their natural habitat. The most popular animals among visitors were the krabbex of Mon Calamari, the snow falcons of Rhinnal, the manticore, the singing trees of Pil Diller, and the mantabog of Malastare.

Zoo Tycoon 2 is already pretty deep in terms of what players can do right from the start, yet Extinct Animals incorporates some fun new twists avid tycoons will surely get a kick out of. If you're immediately thinking Extinct Animals is something along the lines of Jurassic Park then you've got the right idea, only it's a lot less creepy and certainly more all-ages friendly. The expansion adds over 30 new creatures, all of which are no longer in existence, to the already large list of the common zoo animals found in the original game. The great thing is you can mix and match any of the creatures from the expansion or the original game together in your zoo at the same time. This allows you to raise cuddly polar bears and kangaroos alongside velociraptors, tyrannosaurus rex, and other previously extinct carnivorous beasties. You won't want to forget to keep track of which creatures end up as pen-mates or one of your more docile animals may find themselves turned into a quick snack.

Timelines and Extinct Animals effectively integrates technology into many curriculum areas. It was initially created to fit P.S. 224’s Queens school-wide theme: “Timelines and Events of the Millennium.” Using extinct animals to demonstrate the concept of a timeline is ideal because the topic of animals is naturally motivating. Through the use of a teacher-made template created with the Kid Pix Studio Deluxe program, students design their own timelines as they learn about each animal in detail through teacher-made informational charts. The students then use Kid Pix to create original artwork of each animal, along with an animal fact sheet. When the timeline, picture, and fact sheet are completed, each student creates his/her own multimedia slide show using the same program.

Timelines and Extinct Animals can be used in a computer lab or a one-computer classroom. This project was conducted in a computer lab containing 12 Macintosh computers with the Kid Pix Studio Deluxe program. All machines are networked to two color printers. Teachers need to have the resources available to them to gather information and to produce the informational charts. Internet access, reference books and CDs, and library books are needed. A scanner, Adobe PhotoShop, ClarisWorks, a color printer, ink cartridges, and posterboard are all suggested items to present attractive informational charts.

Approximately 11,000 years ago a variety of animals went extinct across North America. These were mostly mammals larger than approximately 44 kg (about 100 pounds). Some of the animals that went extinct are well known (like saber-toothed cats, mammoths, and mastodons). Others were less well known animals (like the short-faced skunk and the giant beaver). Some animals went extinct in North America but survived elsewhere, for example, horses and tapirs.

Along with some added danger and excitement, Extinct Animals provides players with access to a wide range of extinction-themed items to decorate your park, some new buildings, and additional staff positions. Among the several significant facility additions, the new Fossil Education Center lets you place a hilarious costumed staff member - dressed in one of several silly outfits - on the grounds to entertain and education visitors.
