Everybody Hates Chris TV Show Cast Members The Everybody Hates Chris TV show is a comedy series on the CW Network inspired by Chris Rock's real life childhood as a teenager who must take care of his little brother and sister while his parents work numerous jobs. He ... attends a school where he has one of the few faces of color after making a multiple bus ride back and forth to school each day. He somehow faces the inevitable bullies and the "parental" responsiblities and pushes on as best he can.
Much of the charm of Everybody Hates Chris is that the parents, played by Tichina Arnold (formerly of Martin) and ex-football player Terry Crews, are those rare TV parents who are actually in charge of their family. "With the exception of Cosby, every black father I see on TV, they're not really masculine," said Rock. "They're like these theater-type guys — not gay, not straight, just theater."
Of these three, Frank (Peter Boyle) (right), along with Sugar Ray‘s children (not pictured), would not survive the death of Everybody Loves Raymond and return to life as stars of Everybody Hates Raymond--but, then again, neither would any of the other members of the original show, nor the original show itself. For the most part, Everybody Hates Raymond was to remain true to the original show. Everyone was still to favor Sugar Ray, but there were a few changes in the cast. Sugar Ray's children would die, along with their grandfather (Sugar Ray's and Robert's father) in a car accident early in the show, because, according to the show's creator, Philip Rosenthal, "neither the old man nor the kids amounted to much from a dramatic point of view; little of the comedy, such as it was, involved them; and they couldn't act." The other characters were to have been retained and their basic quirks and foibles, continuing, were to have been exaggerated.
The Red Hot Chili Peppers took over the set of Everybody Hates Chris when Chris Rock directed their new video, "Hump de Bump." The band plays a Brooklyn block party, gets down with a marching band, and hangs out in a low-rider.
During the series' run, Everybody Hates Chris was set in different time periods throughout the 1980s. The first season was set in 1982-1983. The second season was set in 1984-1985. The third season is set in 1985-1986.
The cast of Everybody Hates Chris is hard at work over what should be the summer break. Why? Because growth spurts, deepening voices and other signs of puberty haunt the cast. SFGate.com reports on the summer work schedule.
